Vintage 1990s Robert Eickholt Studio Art Glass Iridescent Dichroic Gold Foil Vase Signed
Vintage 1992 Robert Eickholt aurene ovoid dichroic art glass vase. Signed and dated on bottom.
Dichroic glass is a type of glass that changes color depending on the angle or color of light it interacts with. It is made by applying multiple thin layers of metal oxides, quartz crystal, and glass to the glass surface. The layers are vaporized in a vacuum chamber and create a coating that's similar to a gemstone. The layers of metal oxides create an interference effect that causes the glass to reflect and transmit different wavelengths of light. This results in the glass having an iridescence, having two or more distinct colors, depending on the lighting conditions.
